Political Representation

Government policy should be directed by the people, but by necessity must be implemented by political representatives.  When those representatives turn their back on a particular issue, barring extraordinary intervention by the people, that issue is orphaned.  We have been witness to many quality people fleeing politics because it has become too unseemly for them. Worse, we have also seen a retreat from principal in the choice of issues.  How many politicians of the last two generations would be included in a revised edition of John F. Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage? - perhaps some of those listed below.

What follows is a list of American politicians who have addressed the UFO/Extraterrestrial directly or in conjunction with the more general matter of excessive government secrecy.  This list has one dominant characteristic: it is very, very short.

  • The late Congressman Steven Schiff (R, NM) - Pursued information regarding the 1947 event in Roswell, NM resulting in the GAO Roswell Report.

  • Phoenix Councilwoman Frances Emma Barwood (R, AZ) - demanded an investigation of the March 13, 1997 sightings over Arizona and included the issue in her campaign for Secretary of State.

  • Senator Gerald Ford (R, MI) - applied political pressure in 1966 for a Congressional hearing which led to the Condon Commission and subsequent report in 1968.

If you know of another politician who should be included here, please provide information to Paradigm Research Group.  It will be reviewed and, if appropriate, the individual will be listed above.
